The Role:

As the most sophisticated agency in the affiliate space and the originators of the Performance Partnerships® framework, Acceleration Partners has long believed that publisher development is the lifeblood of program success and a cornerstone of any successful affiliate strategy. As we have expanded our global capabilities, our focus on publisher development has only increased, and our vision is of a world where large brands and large publishers integrate on both global and local levels, making strong relationships and communication even more critical. Additionally, we believe that there is huge opportunity globally in working with publishers and media formats that have not historically considered themselves affiliates, but that are interested in the Performance Partnerships® framework – and that with some education, these publishers can become significant producers.

As we continue to strive toward being the global agency of choice for both advertisers and affiliates, and toward our target of $30 million in revenue globally by 2020, we are seeking a dynamic Head of Global Publisher Development to both build and oversee our highest value global publisher relationships as well as to facilitate the local relationships between those publishers and our regional account and publisher development teams. Additionally, the Head of Global Publisher Development will serve as the lead for publisher development in the Americas, Acceleration Partners’ largest region, and will be accountable for the performance of the Americas publisher development team.

At Acceleration Partners, we have three core values that we apply to everything we do: Own It, Embrace Relationships, and Excel & Improve. The ideal candidate will have a track record that aligns to all of these values. This person will have a history of owning it, having met and exceeded large publisher development revenue targets or other similar KPIs. This person will have a demonstrated track record of embracing relationships by working closely with both advertisers and publishers, creating win-win scenarios and value on all sides. And this person will have demonstrated the desire to excel & improve by innovating on what an affiliate can be and how an affiliate can be engaged, and not limiting their vision to traditional affiliates.

The Global Publisher Development Lead will be part of the Global Client Services organization, reporting to our Chief Client Officer, with a dotted line to the VP of Client Services, Americas. The Global Publisher Development Lead will have oversight of AP’s centralized publisher functions, directly oversee our Americas Publisher Development team, and will also work closely with regional teams to ensure cohesion around publishers and accounts across markets. They will also have significant influence setting the overall publisher development strategy and priorities. While the long-term structure of AP’s publisher development team is not 100% finalized, it is expected that the Head of Global Publisher Development would build a team as the demands of the function scale.

Your 2019 Top 5 Job Responsibilities:

  1. Lead, manage, and Hold your team Accountable: Manage and lead the Americas publisher development team member(s), supervise activities, manage workloads and delegate projects accordingly. Ensure that the publisher development team is working effectively to build productive relationships and processes both internally and externally.
  2. Achieve Americas revenue and partnership targets.
  3. Develop processes and standards for publisher development globally and ensure training and adherence in each region.
  4. Manage relationships with top 25 global publishers, and work with regional account and publisher managers to ensure that local relationships with such publishers remain solid and productive. Negotiate and secure agency discounts, special offers, etc. with top publishers.
  5. Advise the Leadership Team on global publisher trends and strategy. Serve as an internal and industry thought leader around publisher and affiliate partner development, including managing global partner relationships and speaking at industry events.

What Success Looks Like:

By Six Months: You have leveraged your own existing publisher relationships and Acceleration Partners’ institutional relationships to meet with 25 of the top global publishers, either in person or via video. You have begun working with the different regions to integrate the global publisher relationships with the local ones. You have developed an Americas and a global engagement plan which has been approved by the Leadership Team. You are successfully managing and leading your team and have developed positive working and coaching relationships with them and other stakeholders at AP.

First Twelve Months: You have developed, documented, and implemented a process for ensuring global and local relationships and priorities are aligned. You have met all 50 of the highest priority global publishers, either in person or via video. You have identified and begun to incubate 10 new publishers with high global potential. You have achieved target revenue goals and KPIs. You have onboarded at least two new high-potential performance partners. You and your team are fully and effectively integrated into the organization, meeting KPIs and achieving high levels of internal satisfaction.

Qualities of the Ideal Candidate:

  • You have met a publisher revenue quota or some other measurable revenue attainment metric.
  • You are fundamentally a “relationship person.”
  • You have proven abilities to successfully lead teams, particularly in high growth environments and/or through periods of change.
  • You are comfortable coloring outside the lines and thinking creatively to accomplish objectives.
  • You are able to successfully navigate both business development and transactional sales relationships.
  • You love to manage complex, multi-touch relationships with multiple stakeholders.
  • You are able to effectively navigate cultural and business model nuances, and can adjust your style depending on the situation.
  • You are highly comfortable with dotted line relationships and influencing without direct authority.
  • You are tenacious and don’t get discouraged…ever.
  • You have owned outcomes no matter what, the buck stops with you.
  • You are comfortable with some ambiguity that comes along with a high growth business.
  • You are never satisfied with good enough—you always push yourself and those around you to get better.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 8-10 years of experience cultivating relationships with partners and/or publishers within a network, agency, or in-house position
  • Experience leading a team of 3+, proven leadership track record with experience developing and managing performance of direct reports

  • Strong track record of building relationships with publishers and retailers in several verticals
  • Proven excellence in exceeding revenue goals
  • Strong written and verbal communication, presentation and negotiation skills

  • Public Relations, Sales, and/or Business Development experience a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Ability to travel approximately 10-20%

Location:

The Head of Global Publisher Development is a work from home position, as are all positions at Acceleration Partners.
