In this month’s edition of our Employee Spotlight series we talked to EMEA Account Manager Joanna Kenny. She shares how she started working in the affiliate industry, changes she’s seen since working in the industry and the benefits of working on a global team.  

Can you tell us about your role at Acceleration Partners (AP)?

I have been with AP for just over one year now and I am currently an Account Manager for one of our key global eCommerce clients.

I am based outside of Cheshire, England but travel frequently to meet with our client and our partners in and around London.

What attracted you to the affiliate marketing industry?

I studied Marketing and Psychology for my degree and had a keen interest in digital marketing in particular. After leaving University I was matched to an affiliate role and the match proved to be a good one as over five years into working in affiliate marketing I haven’t looked back since!

What advice would you give to those considering it as a career?

Affiliate marketing plays such a big factor in everyday life so it’s a really impactful area to work in. If you like the sound of being able to shape how people, see and interact with a brand by working creatively with partners with measurable outcomes then this is the career for you. You really do flex multiple skill sets, so you need to be a bit of an all-rounder!

You work on a European affiliate programme. Can you share what helps AP stand out when it comes to managing multi-regional affiliate programmes?

At AP I am privileged to work with colleagues with a mixture of career backgrounds, cultures and language capabilities. We have experts in all areas and locations and a great culture of sharing knowledge and key learnings globally. I think this really sets us apart when working across multiple regions.

What has been the biggest change in the affiliate industry since you started your career?

I think the affiliate industry has become far more accessible now. For example, we are seeing media houses, brand to brand partnerships and influencers entering the space more now than ever, rather than just the traditional loyalty partners and voucher sites. We are also seeing the acceptance of different commercial models which opens up new opportunities.

How do you personally take advantage of AP’s 100% remote environment?

Prior to working at AP, I always wanted a dog but due to long working days away from the house, this wasn’t possible. I have finally been able to get a puppy and dedicate the time needed to him.

I also really enjoy being able to control my working environment each day. I can grab my laptop and set myself up in the garden on sunny days or back in Belfast visiting family!

When you aren’t managing affiliate programmes how do you like to spend your time outside of work?

My fiancé and I spend a lot of time with our beagle puppy Trigger taking him on long walks trying to tire him out – he is a handful!

We are also in the process of decorating our house and planning our wedding in 2021.

What’s the last thing you purchased online?

Some funky art prints for the house from Redbubble! We are still working our way through decorating as we only purchased the house a few months ago.
