AP Employee Spotlight: Hassan Zareh-Ourang

 

In this month’s addition of our Employee Spotlight series we talked to Hassan, our Senior Account Manager of EMEA. Hassan shares his thoughts on the benefits of remote working as a parent, what brands should keep their eye on in affiliate marketing, and his top tip for working with a global brand.

 

Can you tell us about your role at AP, and how you ended up working in affiliate marketing?

I am the EMEA Senior Account Manager responsible for leading one our key accounts at AP. In this role, I’m responsible for the strategic management of one of AP EMEA’s biggest travel and retail brands. Prior to AP, I worked on the network side at affilinet, AWIN & TradeDoubler managing a range of clients across many sectors.

What has been the biggest change you’ve seen in affiliate marketing during your career?

The recent shift towards partner marketing within the industry is a welcomed change. Whilst there are key partners who will always be the basis of most affiliate programmes, it’s nice to see networks and agencies taking on this challenge, thinking creatively, and identifying meaningful partnerships for clients.

What do you think brands should keep their eye on in affiliate marketing?

Affiliate marketing is one of the earliest forms of digital marketing and, despite a chequered past, is still here and driving great returns for clients and publishers alike. In my professional opinion, affiliate marketing is an incredible channel as it can take many forms. Affiliate marketers collaborate with some of the world’s largest media and content houses, loyalty partners, influencers, paid search, display and deals partners. There really isn’t much that the affiliate channel can’t intertwine with.

Are there any emerging platforms that you think will eventually take off in affiliate marketing?

Keeping on the theme of partner marketing, Wove, a brand-to-brand platform which enables brands to create partnerships and drive customer growth could be incredibly powerful. The channel needs innovation and new opportunities for brands. Any platform that can do that well will take off.

You work on a global account. What are your top tips for working with a global brand?

When managing a global affiliate programme, the one tip I would give to any team is to communicate as much as possible. It can be difficult having team members on multiple time zones and working in markets that have their own nuances. However, having a team that communicates and stays aligned on the overarching goals of the client is bound for success.

How does working remotely accommodate your lifestyle?

Remote working allows me to spend more time with my family. Typically in the UK, fathers are granted two weeks paternity and will often miss out on many of those little moments with their children. In my case, working for AP means I don’t have to miss important family time, which is something money just can’t buy. They say the happier your employees are, the better they perform, and when I look around at the great work that goes on at AP, I’d say we are all a pretty happy bunch.
