How long have you worked in affiliate marketing and what is your current role at Acceleration Partners?

I started my career in affiliate marketing in July of last year following my college graduation. Currently, I work as an Account Associate in the Key Accounts department.


What do you do as an Associate in Key Accounts?

As an Associate, I wear several hats and there is no typical day-to-day operation. From recruitment to merchandising to data analysis, I juggle multiple responsibilities to ensure the health of my clients’ affiliate programs.

But I believe the most important requirement of my job is the ability to build relationships. This is partner marketing, and creating meaningful relationships with your affiliates, team members, and clients leads to excellent results.


What got you interested in affiliate marketing?

I was drawn to affiliate marketing because of how fast the industry is expanding. The digital landscape has evolved drastically over the past five years, and it will look completely different five years from today. It’s a thrilling opportunity to be a part of a marketing channel that is constant growing and where I have the potential to help shape its growth.


What are some common misconceptions people have about affiliate marketing?

A common misconception about affiliate marketing is that it’s all about coupons. We do MUCH more for our clients. There are so many different partnership opportunities to explore that can provide incremental value for a brand! From mass media outlets to cashback sites to innovative technology partners, there are hundreds of different affiliates we can connect brands with.

Additionally, people often think that the affiliate channel is siloed from a brand’s other marketing channels, when in fact there is a great deal of overlap. In my personal experience, I’ve been able to collaborate with my brands paid social, influencer, SEO, wholesale, and email teams to optimize traffic and conversion. Although we are an agency, we are designed to be an extension of our client’s team. Collaboration is key!


What is one aspect of your job that might surprise people?

I think people would be surprised by the amount of media planning and content development that is involved in the Associate seat. I am still in awe that I get to work with brands like BuzzFeed, CNN, Forbes, and Time Inc. on optimizations for my clients.


When you’re not working, what can we find you doing?

When I’m not working, you’ll find me clipped into a bike instructing classes at my local cycling studio. I’ve been instructing indoor cycling for about three years now, and I absolutely love it!

Finally, if you were stranded on a deserted island, what book or object would you bring?

An iPod! I love all music (especially Taylor Swift, #Swiftie) and have a playlist for every occasion/mood.
