This month, we’re featuring Renee Christensen, Client Success Director at Acceleration Partners.
In the spirit of Office Space, what would you say … you do here?
TPS reports. Just kidding! As the Client Success Director, I work directly with the client and the account teams throughout the first 100 days of the relationship to ensure that everyone is set up for success. I love my role because I’m able to support our clients during the most critical time of our relationship plus liaison with several different departments within AP, including our fantastic client delivery team!
How did you find yourself in the world of affiliate marketing?
This question makes me feel old, but here it goes… back in 2005 I worked for an online party supply retailer and had the opportunity to step into an online marketing specialist role. Upon accepting the role, I was given ownership of a very small affiliate program that had a handful of affiliates and very little revenue.
To make a long story short, I did my research on affiliate marketing, actively participated in industry events and in just a few short years grew the affiliate channel to account for 8% of the company’s total online revenue.
That is really impressive. While on that path, how did you come across Acceleration Partners?
Believe it or not, our CEO Bob Glazer used to be an affiliate for that very online party supply retailer I worked for! I supported Bob with assets he needed to be a successful affiliate in our program and we’d bump into each other often at industry events.
Fast forward several years…Bob had started Acceleration Partners and I was looking for a new role in the affiliate marketing industry. I reached out and, after several interviews later, I was thrilled to be offered a role with the company!
How have you seen the affiliate marketing industry change over the past five years?
The advancement of technology has by far been the most impactful in so many ways. For our clients, new technology to support attribution and incrementality goals have provided an avenue to reward based on quality. Mobile has also been a huge player, with more and more unique apps using performance marketing to monetize their users and support life on the go.
The rise of influencer marketing and SaaS platforms have also made a big impact on the industry over the past few years.
What’s the coolest thing you’re working on right now?
I wouldn’t say there is just one cool thing I’m working on right now, there are many! But looking forward to 2019, I’m most excited to take our client onboarding to the next level and get creative with how we can use technology to not only make our onboarding experience more efficient for our account teams, but more engaging for our clients.
When you aren’t hard at work at AP, helping ensure our clients’ success, what might one find you doing?
I love spending time with my family – Sunday football games (GO Seahawks!), camping in the Spring and Summer and hauling my daughter around to whatever activity she’s into at the moment! I’m also a little obsessed with HGTV
Favorite AP memory?
It’s hard to pick just one because there are so many! Our affiliate team meeting in Charlotte, NC back in 2014 after we all attended ShareASale’s Think Tank is coming to mind right now. Lots of laughing, wine and an impromptu bachelorette party for one of our amazing team members, Emily Ersbak. So fun.
If you could hop on a plane tomorrow and go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Anywhere tropical with no internet – sun, sand and no distractions!
