We’re kicking off our 2019 Employee Spotlight series with none other than Acceleration Partners’ (AP) President, Matt Wool. As an honored AP veteran, Matt is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to all things affiliate and performance marketing.
In addition to beating the drum that provides cadence, consistency, organization, accountability and prioritization throughout AP, Matt is also a father, husband, fledgling woodworker and surprisingly impressive karaoke singer (his rendition of Boys II Men’s “Motownphilly” is a must-see).
A jack of many important trades, AP is very fortunate to have Matt keeping us on pace to meet our ambitious goals!
We know that you’re an AP veteran, but how long exactly have you been with the company?
I’ve been with Acceleration Partners for seven years.
How has the affiliate landscape changed since you first started working here?
Pretty dramatically, actually. When I first started, it was a pre-attribution world dominated by legacy networks. Today, attribution and incrementality are paramount and the technology scene is much more robust, with multiple different network types, Software as a Service (SaaS) and mobile-first players.
What excites you when you think about the future of affiliate marketing?
I’m excited that, more and more, people are recognizing that partnerships and paying on performance are incredibly powerful business drivers. Other digital marketing channels are limited by the dominant players in their spaces such as Google, Facebook, etc., however, partnerships are virtually limitless.
When your kids ask you what it is you do at AP, how do you explain your role to them?
I tell them that my job is to make sure everyone else has what they need to do their roles as well as they possibly can.
As the President of a global affiliate marketing agency you travel quite often. What is one place on your bucket list that you haven’t visited yet?
I would love to visit Patagonia one day.
What is your favorite hobby or activity to do when you aren’t working?
Right now, my go-to hobby is woodworking which, admittedly, is really odd considering I’d never used a power tool before 2018!
What is something about yourself that may surprise us?
I love many forms of heavy metal music and really want to have goats in my backyard.
This is indeed surprising … What’s your secret talent that few people know about?
I can estimate time really well. Even without a watch I can usually guess the time within a couple of minutes.
If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you meet (and why)?
I’d like to meet young Albert Einstein. I just think it would be incredible to hear his ideas before the rest of the world.
What are you currently watching on Netflix?
At the moment I am watching Chef’s Table. I love seeing how great chefs use food as a catalyst for larger social ideas.
