On a balmy August evening, members of Acceleration Partners’ Philadelphia hub and their families gathered together for batter ups, stolen bases and strike outs – for both players and cancer.
The local IronPigs Minor League Baseball team held a “Strike Out Cancer Night,” recognizing and celebrating those in the Lehigh Valley who have defeated or are fighting the disease.
Portions of the funds raised at the event went directly to nine local non-profits in the Lehigh Valley; each organization contributes to the goal of striking cancer out.
One of the co-recipients included the Women’s 5k Classic, an organization I am personally committed to. The Women’s 5k Classic is an all-volunteer organization that raises funds for research and support for women with breast and gynecologic cancers.
As an active committee member, it was an honor to spend an evening raising awareness for this organization and so many other deserving charities.
One of the evening highlights was during the 5th inning. Everyone stood for a moment of silence to honor those who have been impacted by cancer. Family and friends each held placards that read “Strike out cancer for …” with a space for a name.
The AP Philly hub was humbled to be part of such a meaningful event which raised over $14,000 for these incredible local non-profits uniting to strike out cancer.
