Last Tuesday it was announced that ShareASale was acquired by Axel Springer, parent company of both Zanox and Affiliate Window, two organizations that are also in the process of merging their operations and brand.
While announcement of the acquisition seemed to take many by surprise, those who have been paying close attention to the changes in the industry see this union as highly strategic and quite timely. Both companies share similar values and culture, have a client-centric focus, and are committed to transparency and innovation.
They also recognize the rise of global e-commerce and the impact it will have on affiliate marketing as merchants continue to discover the growing market opportunity. BI Intelligence states that 15 percent of digital media earnings in the US originate from affiliate marketing, making it one of the four largest sources of e-commerce orders, outperforming social commerce and display.
While individually valuable to both companies, this merger was also about meeting the increasing demand from large brands to have a coordinated global affiliate program, as well as the need for networks and platforms to provide seamless global coverage.
Bringing together ShareASale’s strong brand reputation in the US with Affiliate Window’s global reach, solid account management, and custom solutions allows both companies to compete on a global level while offering advertisers and publishers a broader spectrum of marketing services.
Affiliate Window will be able to accelerate its US expansion and brand awareness with a large base of clients and publishers and ShareASale will likely soon be able to offer their client’s access to Awin/Zanox’s global platform and support team.
This union will make it possible for both companies to strengthen their positions globally and create new synergistic and growth opportunities for the performance marketing industry. For now, the two brands are remaining separate, but we expect to see a closer integration over time, especially in the US.
Our congrats to Mark, Adam and the Affiliate Window team as well as to Brian and the ShareASale team.
