Last month, some of our Chicago-based team members came together to volunteer with Cradles to Crayons, a national organization that provides children from birth through age 12 with essential items to help them thrive at home, at school and at play – all free of charge.

This month, it was our Boston-based team members who met up at Cradles to Crayons’ Boston warehouse to volunteer by helping package clothing for children in need.

The warehouse was divided into four different work stations:

  1. At the “Outfit” station, volunteers created outfit packs for children so they’d be able to have clothes for at least one week without doing laundry.
  2. At the “Shopping” station, the Acceleration Partners crew created packages for children based on what they put down on their request form. In the warehouse, aisles for each specific product were organized by gender/size and we used shopping carts to collect the items they wanted and needed, including diapers, jackets, boots, shoes and warm clothing.fullsizeoutput_2e4
  3. At the “Sizing” station, volunteers separated clothing items based on sizes.
  4. At the “Toy” station, volunteers cleaned toys. The group of girls volunteering at this station were actually part of a birthday party. The birthday girl, who was turning 10, invited her friends to the warehouse to celebrate her special day by helping other kids in need.

By the end of the day, the volunteers from all the stations helped 480 children.

Cradles to Crayons has also begun a “Gear Up for Winter” initiative. The focus is to gather items that will help kids stay warm during the winter months.

At the warehouse, there was a board displaying hundreds of index cards. Each index card listed a child’s name, their clothing size and their specific needs, which included items such as jackets, pajamas, sweaters, long pants, etc. AP volunteers took home a card(s) so that they could create packages for a specific child to help them stay warm this winter.

What’s more is that Cradles to Crayons partnered with Old Navy for their “Gear Up for Winter” initiative so volunteers can shop for children in need and save money on their purchases – something we hope many people will do.

We were honored to volunteer at Cradles to Crayons’ and participate in their “Gear Up for Winter” initiative. Our Philadelphia-based team members look forward to their Cradles to Crayons volunteer day in December.
